A new antibiotic with Zithromax is now available.

The researchers compared the effectiveness of two new antibiotics that had been used for decades to Zithromax and Z-Pak.
"It's a great new option for people who are looking for more effective antibiotics," said lead author Dr. Stephen F. Kegel, M. D., associate professor of medicine and clinical nursing at the Harvard Medical School.
"If it was an antibiotic, we could have done a lot better, but there's no way to get it back," said Kegel. "I think this new antibiotic might be an option."
Zithromax has a narrow spectrum of activity, meaning it has a shorter half-life. It may be more effective against certain types of bacteria.
The study, "Zithromax vs Z-Pak: An Analysis of Available Antibiotics," is published in the journalJAMA Internal Medicine. It was supported by a National Institutes of Health grant.
